Call Me Sensitive

Several months ago I received one of those emails that you're supposed to send to all of your "friends" asking them to describe you in one word. I, like the good friend that I am, sent it back with an appropriate nice descriptive word and then forwarded it on to all my other friends so they could describe me. I got many responses back...all very interesting and nice, but one really bothered me. SENSITIVE.

The first two definitions for SENSITIVE in the Encarta Dictionary are:
1. Thoughtful and sympathetic - tactful and sympathetic in relation to the feelings of others
2. Touchy - easily offended or annoyed if something is spoken about

Which one did I automatically assume she meant? Yes, of course definition 2. I must be sensitive - touchy, easily offended - because I was totally annoyed! I wanted to send an email back and ask her what she meant, which definition was she going by. But I didn't. Did she think I was sensitive in a bad way, or sensitive in a good way? I'll never know.

I thought about it for a few days. I needed a second opinion. I brought it up to my husband and asked him what he thought she meant. He said he thought she meant it in a good way. That there was no way she would send that and mean it in a bad way.

Well, whatever. Call me sensitive. I must be, because it really annoyed me.
