I can't believe it! I finally broke down and took my 18 month old daughter to the barn to ride. I've been trying to stall as long as possible but I just had to do it. I have opened up the biggest can of worms! I told myself not to do it. We can't afford to do the horse thing. But you know what, oh well. We'll figure out a way.
You see, she was genetically predetermined to be an equestrian. There was no way around it. I have been in and out of the horse world for over 25 years. I grew up riding and showing ponies for other people. Once I turned 18 I began teaching. I taught lessons and showed horses off and on until I got pregnant (at age 34). I haven't taught or ridden since. That is until today.
Today I got to teach my own daughter how to ride! I was beaming from ear to ear, absolutely thrilled that my own little girl seemed to be such a natural. I couldn't contain my excitement! I can't contain my excitement! She is a natural! Really, she is! And I'm not just saying that because she's mine. She had her legs in perfect position with her heels down. She sat up nice and tall with a slight arch in her back. She had exceptional balance. But the most important part of all is that she wanted to ride and was having fun. Anytime I'd stop she's say "more". She was "neighing" as we went around and around the arena. After 45 minutes I had to end the ride so we could go home and eat dinner. She then threw a fit when it was time to get in the car to leave.
She likes it, she likes it!
I knew she would ride sooner or later, but I didn't realize how very excited I'd be when she finally did. Oh God, don't let me be a crazy horse show mom!
