I am that crazy horse show mom!

A few Saturday's ago was my daughter's first horse show. My first horse show as a mom. My first show as a non-participant, or a non-instructor. My first horse show where I got to keep asking "How much longer?" What a different perspective. Let me explain.

Horse shows are typically all day events where you hurry up and wait. There is no such thing as a timeline, only a list of events (classes) that will be held. My daughter's class, the leadline, was toward the end of the day. We got there around 5:30 thinking we'd have plenty of time to grab a bite to eat, hang out a little and then get my daughter ready to show. Apparently, not. We had to immedietly get her dressed, get the pony ready, get me ready....aghhhhhhhhhh! Freak out mode! Miraculously, we got everything done and we were ready to go. We made it!

We made it with plenty time to spare...2 hours! Seriously, 2 hours. My little girl was extremely patient. And anyone who has a toddler knows that "patient" really is not a part of their vocabulary. But patient she was. She sat on the pony the entire time. All she cared about was being on that pony. Her only complaint was that we weren't walking the entire time.

Mommy, on the other hand, got tired of walking around for 2 hours. I was tired of waiting for her class. I wanted to know how much longer until it was her turn. The event officials started saying that perhaps they would have to cancel her class since they were running out of time. EXCUSE ME! I, I mean my daughter, has been waiting all day for this. We were not leaving without doing her class. This was her "debut". They had to do the class.

And we did it! We got in that arena and showed everyone what we'd waited all day for. My baby girl waved and neighed for everyone! She ate up all the attention. She was exactly where she wanted to be. She was on a pony and she was the center of attention. I was exactly where I had dreamed of being. In the arena with my little girl on a pony....my little girl happily on a pony.

As it turns out, I am in fact a crazy horse show mom, and I'm okay with that.

Especially when the day ends with a happy child and a big blue ribbon!

I so loved this moment. My three young equestrian daughters in lead line seemed like yesterday. As their passion for showing increases...MOM anxiety goes through the roof. Here is how I captured those moments. www.equestrianphotocharm.com
