AMP One Size Duo Diaper - A Review and Giveaway!

Next up in the Fluff the Bum Event is the AMP One Size Duo Diaper.  This is a diaper that can be used as either a pocket diaper or as an All-in-two (AI2). As a pocket, just stuff it with the insert. As a AI2, just lay the insert in. The benefit of using it as an AI2 is that when it is time to change the diaper, you can just replace the insert and reuse the diaper.

The Duo Diaper is a one size adjustable rise diaper that fits from 7-38 pounds. It features a front opening pocket with a custom milled stay dry microfleece inner and soft durable laminated PUL waterproof outer. The intelligent snap placement of this front snapping diaper allows multiple tummy and thigh settings for a perfect fit. This diaper does not come with inserts and must be purchased separately.

The first thing I noticed about this diaper was how soft it is. The second thing, was how well made it is. It is a very nice diaper! The quality of workmanship is outstanding.

Some of the features that I like are the elastic on both the front and back of the diaper, and the ruffle style leg openings, and of course, the front stuffing opening. The front and back elastic allows for a very nice fit and the leg ruffles seem to keep any messes in, and they are too cute! And the front insert opening keeps your hands mess-free when unstuffing.

The AMP Diaper does not come with an insert, but that allows you to buy the type of insert you prefer.  AMP has several very nice inserts to choose from - Bamboo, 2-layer Hemp, 3-layer Hemp, Cotton Fleece, or Microfiber. I tried the Bamboo and the 2-layer Hemp.

The Bamboo inserts are super absorbent and trim. Made from 70% Rayon derived from bamboo and 30% cotton, they are breathable, soft, anti-bacterial, and absorb 3-4 times more than cotton. The 2-layer hemp inserts are made of pre-washed 55% hemp, 45% cotton fleece. Hemp is a great choice because of it's durability and absorbency, as well as it's anti-microbial properties. The inserts are folded in half or thirds to fit, which makes them a one size insert as well. It also makes them quicker to dry.

The fit of this diaper is nice.  It is a pretty trim fitting diaper, with an average sized fluffy bum. Like I mentioned, the front and back elastic make it easy to get a good fit around the waist. The placement of the front snaps are a little different than I am used to, but they make it easy to get a good fit around the legs. I think you'd consider it having waist and hip snaps...so the top and bottom snaps do not necessarily go on the same number snap. (I hope that makes sense!)

The AMP One Size Duo Diaper is a little more expensive (as a pocket) than the others I have reviewed so far, but the quality is worth it.  At $20 (Canadian) each plus the cost of inserts ($8 Bamboo, $5.50 Hemp or Cotton Fleece, $3.75 Microfiber) you're looking at $23.75 - $28 each if used as a pocket diaper. A stash of 24 that would last from birth to potty training would cost you $570 - $672 . (Disposables on average cost $800 per year)

If used as an AI2, you'd need 8-10 diapers plus 24 inserts. For 10 diapers it would cost $332 with hemp or cotton fleece inserts or $392 with bamboo inserts. Now that's a very good price!
