When I started the potty training process with my son and posted something about it on my Facebook page, I got many responses about what worked for their son. The most popular suggestion was to let them pee outside. The novelty and independence of going outside and doing their business on a tree, a rock, or whatever, seemed to make potty training a fun task. We gave it a try and have had much success with it. Maybe too much.

All I know is, that boy of mine digs going pee-pee outside! So much so, we have to keep a close eye on him so he doesn't drop trou in public. Well, not really in public, but he did almost urinate off the fourth floor balcony while we were on vacation. And he definitely doesn't hold back when at home. We are currently living in an RV in my grandmother-in-law's yard so there's plenty of outside time. On his walk from GG's (great-grandmother's) to the RV, this is what occurred:
My mother has been on my case about it. She thinks we're going to get in trouble for it...like the law is going to come for him. I honestly don't have an issue with him peeing outside. As long as he's doing it at home or at my parents home, I don't think it's a problem. It is greener than using the toilet! :)
What do you think? Pee-pee outside or no? Do you let your boys do it?

My best friend actually had her son "house trained" (for lack of a better word) before he was "potty trained." I have no idea why, but boys love peeing outside. My son is 2 yrs old, still on the young side of being ready, and yet he loves peeing outside! I think it is a stage and yes, it makes it fun for them :)
Boys will be boys! :)
first off, i like you.
second, i wrote about this very thing several months ago on Babble and got crucified. my take was show me someone who's anti-toddler-urinating outside and i'll show you someone who doesn't have triplets. and, i'm telling you, these women killed me.
my true take is this: in a perfect world, no one uses the bathroom outside. but if one of my 3yo boys drops trou and lets it go, as long as we're not in a public place or near a source of water, i'm pretty okay with it.
okay, gotta go. i have a strange hankering for some eggs. think i'm gonna head over to Denny's on Watt Road.
@JCO I like you too! I was introduced to you through Katie Granju's blog. Your posts always make me laugh.
I can't believe you got crucified for letting your boys pee outside. I mean dogs do it ALL THE TIME. What's the difference? You gonna make your dog pee in the toilet? Whatever. Those Babble readers can be a bit crazy! ;)
